存在狀態(tài)State of Existence━“華麗”與“樸素”具有二元性，這也是自然的表征和內(nèi)在的現(xiàn)象，但在《“粹”的構(gòu)造》里，九鬼周造卻有著耳目一新的解釋。他把“華麗”翻譯成葉片伸展出去，稱之“葉出”；“樸素”則是品嘗土地的味道，謂之“地味”。前者是走出自我的存在狀態(tài)，后者則是沉入自我的存在狀態(tài)。展廳設(shè)計(jì)不同的自我狀態(tài)塑造了不同的空間意識(shí)，而功能的“存在”卻是客觀的事實(shí)。
